- BioAs a composer, songwriter and music producer Joel has a wealth of experience in the field of music ranging from band leader to studio owner and now in-house composer at one of the industry’s top music houses: The Lodge. Originally from Niagara Falls, Canada, Joel grew up studying classical guitar and performing in a wide variety of ensembles. His passion for music led him to study at Boston’s prestigious Berklee College of Music in 2001, graduating with a BA in Music in 2004. While at Berklee he honed his skills as a writer and arranger and began producing demos for himself and his collaborators. He quickly learned the skills needed to launch a career in music which began with a staff producer / engineer position at Sanctum Sound studios in Boston. After spending some time learning the ropes of music production at Sanctum, Joel relocated to New York City in the Fall of 2004 and launched Deasel Music, a production company and recording studio. After several years of recording a variety of studio clients, he began licensing the catalog he had built for TV and commercial placements. By 2008, Joel’s interest in music for advertising had peaked, as he got more involved in the rapidly evolving and fast-paced industry. He quickly landed spots for McDonalds, Cotton (a campaign featuring country star Miranda Lambert) and many others including ATT, Converse, Discover Card, Ford, Lexus, Toshiba and more. Awards: Nominated for AICP Award – Musical Arrangement 2010 for Cotton’s ‘Fabric of our Lives’ Spot with Miranda Lambert for The Lodge NYC 1st Place in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition (Performance category) 2nd place in the 2004 John Lennon Songwriting Competition
